Many people DO NOT believe that scientists are creative! They believe that scientist think like machines or robots when projects and experiments are involved. This is insane! Scientists are very experimental in my eyes. How else would scientists invent something? How would they plan out their new idea or method? The great Albert Einstein did once say "The greatest scientists are artists as well". This phrase is accurate because all great scientists had to have a creative mind in order to challenge well-known theories and ways of thinking!

What makes a scientist a creative scientist?

Scientists aren't usually known for being very creative because they have to follow the scientific method. However, this doesn't mean there is no space for creativity. A creative scientist thinks about an idea that is unheard of and new. Likewise, a creative scientists is also a creative thinker. Few people acknowledge that some of the great innovators today are creative thinkers. Instead, a scientist's imagination is hidden behind the rules and procedures that govern the science they explore making scientists seem boring or not creative.

Why does science require creativity and imagination ?

Science isn't just about nature, methods, and formulas. Its also about how things function, how things live, where things originated, etc. This means that scientists have to have the ability to come up with original ideas that are not common to others. Creativity is needed for science because it helps with brain storming ideas. Many people figure out creative new ways to solve problems by allowing their minds to wander. A walk in the woods or an intense brainstorming session may lead to an "aha!" moment. This shows how imagination is needed for scientists to be successful. Many times a theory or new practice is created from a scientist doing something that is outside of a normal procedure. Their imagination has to be active to be able to think outside of the current range of possibilities.

I believe that many people underestimate scientists! Likewise, many people do not know their capabilities and how much imagination they need in order to be a great scientist. It takes a lot of hard work for scientists to come up with new products, methods, ideas, etc. Also, when scientists are trying to create something new, they have to think way beyond what is present. In other words, scientists always have to "Think outside the box!" and use their mind for creativeness and imagination.
